Hemingway make music like they like their scotch; warm, tasteful and unique. The after taste of the Hemingway flavor leaves the listener salivating for another shot as they mix reggae, rock and many other ingredients to create a unique blend of music they can rightfully claim as their own. When you distill 40 years of combined determination and talent, inevitably seeping out of the tap pours a drop of the Hemingway brew
Amongst the evergreen of the Northern Brisbane suburbs lies a house overlooking the city that Hemingway call home. It is in this lush landscape where brothers Brad and Christian Hemingway slaved their fingers to the bone writing song after song before making a pact to “do or die”, and when it comes to their music and their drive to make music their career, this philosophy rings no truer. Spreading this love for music into the ethos, they attracted the maniacal drummer Brad (dubbed “Animal” to avoid confusion) and fellow mate Cheyne to jump on bass and join their cause in ditching their 9-5’s. Countless hours of practice, bonding and pushing the boundaries that any four dudes crammed into a small room should, they’ve honed their own blend of music they term as “Groove” which incorporates Reggae, Rock, Alternative, Hip Hop among other flavors.
Since their inception in October 2014, Hemingway have played every show they can get their hands on, from headline to support slots. Having enjoyed a warm reception from the Byron culture a handful of times as well as countless Brisbane shows these guys have grown a reputation for a balls to the wall approach and never holding back. Hemingway are expanding their horizon in 2015, releasing their debut E.P Carnival of Freaks on May 28. Carnival of Freaks is the best cuts of meat from the cow, the magnum opus of their 6 months of intense song writing. Carnival Of Freaks boasts soulful melodies with a strong accompaniment of lyrical guitar playing; heart-pounding bass provides the foundation, which is all driven forward by the genre bending drums.
If you like music you can bop your head, tap your toes or smoke a spliff to, then Hemingway are your go to guys. For fans of RHCP, The Gorillaz, Bob Marley.
