Lead/Announce single from 'WEMA' (29 Apr) - a new musical project bringing together Msafiri Zawose (Tanzania), Photay (333K MLs) (USA) and Penya (20K MLs) (UK/Finland). WEMA is raw, optimistic, unfiltered music. It is danceable, undefinable, and undeniably infectious. In March 2020 when the world came to a standstill, producers Photay and Magnus PI from Penya struck up a conversation about the pressures of finishing an album. Clubs were closed, shows cancelled, the world was turning but no one was moving. What were we making music for? Photay and Magnus started exchanging ideas, beats, and rhythms, and shortly thereafter Msafiri and Penya’s Jim and Lilli added their vocal and percussion offerings to the sound. Ideas between the fivesome flowed so easily and effortlessly, that soon they decided to make it official, and WEMA was born. This album was written, produced, and recorded almost entirely virtually and in separation, and WEMA can’t wait for the world to open up again, in order to play together, and to bring their music in front of live audiences.
