汤姆 维茨于1990年发表的专辑Blue Valentine，带来两个小小的变化：开始使用电吉他和键盘，并增加了更多布鲁斯化的弦乐；歌词中的“我”不再是指向歌手本人，而是一个虚构的概念化人物，尽管“我”多半还是个趴在酒吧高脚凳上的酒鬼。而这为Tom Waits以后的音乐转变埋下了伏笔。有趣的是这回他是和Rickie Lee Jones一起出现在封底上的。
